Day long training on ‘Higg Index 3.0 (FEM) and Implementation of Supporting Tools’ held in Dhaka

Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent: A day long training titled ‘Higg Index 3.0 (FEM) and Implementation of Supporting Tools’ was held in Uttara, Dhaka today, 27th of April 2018.

Some 36 delegates mostly coming from different reputed garments factories, Buying houses, Business entities, NGOs participated in the session.

The session was conducted by one of the most promising sustainability professionals of the country Mohammed Al Tauhidul Islam, Senior Compliance Manager, Envoy Textiles Limited.

Emphasizing on sustainability Mr. Tauhid said said, “Higg Index, developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), is truly the hotcake issue of the time in terms of accurately measuring and scoring a company or product’s sustainability performance ensuring the well-being of factory workers, local communities, and the environment. Brands, retailers, and facilities of all sizes can assess themselves according to the Higg script”.  

‘The way we are heading to strengthen our business without taking proper step to protect our environment is totally uncertain. If this momentum continues, sustainability is mere a nightmare. So, Higg Index can be a fruitful weapon to evaluate the performance while implementing Environmental Management System (EMS), Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Chemical Management, Waste water management, stakeholder engagement etc. in the facilities to ensure sustainability as a whole’, he added.      

The training was graced by the presence of Mr. Abdul Alim, Editor & Publisher of the RMG Times, as the special guest. Addressing the participants he said, ‘It’s another milestone to bag for RMG Times that we have successfully organized this session based on Higg Index, an instrument which has been disseminating a craze worldwide in recent times. I want to thank all the attendees for responding our call. We want to lift you a step up by providing these capacity building trainings every time for the transformation to sustainable business models at greater means’.

At the end, attendance certificates were handed over to the participants.
