To institutionalize Inclusive Business, SNV organizes training for BUFT

Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent: SNV Netherlands Development organized a two days long training on Inclusive Business (IB)  for BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology or BUFT on 18^th and 21^st of April 2018 in Dhaka. With a view to institutionalizing IB models, SNV is providing such trainings.

A number of emerging and energetic lectures from BUFT participated in the session conducted by Mr. Jamal Uddin, Inclusive Business Advisor, SNV Netherlands Development Organization Bangladesh, a Netherlands based non-profit international development organization while Ms. Farhtheeba Rahat Khan, Team Leader- Working with Women Project, SNV Bangladesh and Ms. Daniella Mendoza, Project Manager- Inclusive Business, Sweden were also present.

Being one of the leading universities in the country BUFT do have the academic system and connectivity with the ready-made garments industries. SNV’s target is to transfer IB knowledge with the help of their academic system to build up a sustainable market. The organization is trying to share the knowledge providing different trainings and workshops by the international and local experts. After reaching in a certain degree of improvement, they will develop an own curriculum to their respective institutions based on this Inclusive Business concept.

SNV will ensure the financial support for this connectivity or capacity building project.

Mr. Jamal stated to RMG Times, “SNV is trying to develop the IB concept by institutionalizing it with BUFT. By proving capacity building support, our goal is to continue this initiative even after the validity of this project. We hope it will work for growing up the social motifs among the private companies and gradually make them feel interested to Inclusive Business in future.”

Ms. Farhtheeba said, “SNV is implementing inclusive business models in the RMG sector. The market for inclusive business initiatives is limited. We need private companies without which sustainability is not possible to come forward in order to address development challenges by serving the bottom of the pyramid as customers, suppliers or as workers. The private sector in turn needs the capacity and guidance. To support this and to institutionalize IB training, SNV is building the capacity of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology. The 2-day IB training for BUFT is a part of SNV’s capacity building intervention.”
