‘G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH Supplier Workshop 2018’ focuses on Sustainable Practices

Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent: With a view to increasing the awareness level of the suppliers towards sustainable practices during operation G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH, a reputed Germany based buying house in Bangladesh, organized ‘G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH Supplier Workshop 2018’ at Sector 7 Restaurant and Party Center in Dhaka today.

The session organized by the G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH Corporate Responsibility Department. It was conducted by Mr. S. M. Najmul Hasan, Compliance Manager of G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH Bangladesh and his team in which more than hundreds of delegates from 48 supplier factories to G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH attended.

Mr. Najmul and his team discussed about the social compliance issues including amfori BSCI code of conducts, their own business principles and upcoming challenges of RMG sectors in terms of sustainability.

Mr. Michael Reim, Global Compliance Manager- G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH presided over the session while Mr. Saiful Millat- Network Representative Bangladesh- amfori BSCI, Mr. Sebastian Bonfert, Compliance Manger- G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH, Ms. Shadow Liu, Team Leader, G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH- China, Mr. Frank Han Bing, Team Leader, G. Gueldenpfennig GmbH- Myanmar and Mr. Jahangir Hossain, Manager, Corporate Responsibility- ALDI SUD, Bangladesh Liaison Office were present as the special guests.

Mr. Michael Reim said, “Thanks to all of you to be here, to respond our call. Your presence very much clearly signifies the quest of sustainability for the garments factories which have brought name and fame for Bangladesh. We have emphasized on BSCI code of conducts today in order to enforce our supplier factories for the proper implementation of the requirements as directed in BSCI. Since our goal is the responsible sourcing of products, we must have to make our factories safe first in all aspects. Nothing can be alternative to sustainable practices in the workplace in this regard”.

Mr. Saiful Millat stated in his speech, “Thanks for inviting us at this workshop. I am immensely honoured for giving me the opportunity to speak a few words. Congratulations to Gueldenpfenning team for taking such a great initiative, this indicate GPs proactive attitude in arranging mutually beneficial partnership with its suppliers, which is beyond regular compliance auditing activities. We are very happy to observe great enthusiasm and spontaneous participation of all the pioneers of the RMG sector especially from sustainability and compliance department that you gathered here today. You all know, amfori’s social compliance program named BSCI is what Gueldenpfenning wants all its suppliers to follow. We also have environmental monitoring tool called BEPI. Beside these we arrange capacity building workshops on regular basis. We welcome you to take the benefits of attending to these programs and also avail all the other services we offer. Question answer, group discussion, exercise and presentation were the important parts of that day interactive workshop. The session ended with an open discussion.
