Abdul Alim : Today is 8th of March, International Women’s day, a day to show our respect to the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. Women’s Day is also an opportunity to promote gender parity.

From the perspective of RMG sector of Bangladesh, we can firmly say that they are the prime source for transforming the country to the second largest apparel exporting country in the world. More than 3.6 million women are working in this sector. But this is a matter of fact that they are not always being treated as they should be.

The job is yet not over – the path to full equality in practice is still a long one. Women and girls still face harassment, abuse and violence. And women are still too often prevented from breaking the glass ceiling, receiving lower pay and fewer opportunities for career and business development. Creating quality jobs for women and ensuring equal wages are big challenges. Vulnerable low paid employment still persists in Bangladesh and these sectors mostly employ female workers. As of last year, 12.8 million women worked in vulnerable jobs.

We want girls and women to achieve equality in all aspects of life- access to education, equal pay for equal work, access to top positions in companies as well as protection from violence.

This year, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice. Women are neglected these days all over the world and whenever we go through the pages of newspapers there are definitely something written on the basis of deprivation of them.

Gender equality is not just about fairness and justice in one place, rather it is also a necessity to achieve sustainable peace, security, development, economic prosperity and growth all around the world.

In this day we want to salute those women from every sector but mostly RMG sectors who have furnished our economy and brought the fame we have with their effort.

In this day we want to dignify the women from all around the earth who have made us proud with their utmost efficiencies.

We don’t want our females are to be discriminated anymore.
