DELTEX provides workshop for their suppliers on Detox & BEPI Requirements

Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent: A day long capacity building workshop on Detox and Business Environmental Performance Initiative (BEPI) requirements was held at Hotel Highgarden, Dhaka yesterday on February 19, 2018. It was organized by Global Sustainability Team of DELTEX Ltd. Bangladesh Liaison Office.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sultan Mahmud Sohal, Country Sustainability Manager- DELTEX GmbH Bangladesh, one of the leading Detox specialists of the time, participated by 60 delegates from some of the renowned dying, knitting and washing factories of the country, suppliers of DELTEX.

Among others Ms. Corinna Munzel, Head of Sustainability- DELTEX Handelsgesellschaft mbH, Ms. Sandra Grlica, Junior Sustainability Manager, DELTEX Handelsgesellschaft mbH and Mr. Asifur Rahman, Senior Auditor,DELTEX GmbH Bangladesh were also present. 

The recent COP 21 climate change negotiations in Paris, known as the ‘Paris Agreement’ has now been agreed and sets the global foundation for action on climate change. This follows the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal set of goals, targets and indicators that UN members will use to frame their policies over the next 15 years.

Informing the delegates Mr. Sohal said, “SDGs represent an ambitious and comprehensive framework that will ultimately increase the focus on businesses to generate long-term sustainability success, particularly with regard to the environmental aspects of their supply chain. SDGs of particular relevance are those connected to water and energy management, combating climate change and sustainable sea and marine practices, amongst others. Amfori firmly acknowledges the importance of businesses to incorporate sustainability actions towards shaping society and the future of the planet”.

“To this end, BEPI successfully rolled out its capacity building programme through producer workshops delivered in Bangladesh. With the alliance of this, DELTEX Gmbh Bangladesh Liaison Office took initiative to provide workshops on BEPI environmental performance area to supplier. These workshops give producers an introduction to managing environmental performance through BEPI, helping them to understand the practical onsite benefits of the BEPI Improvement Phase and learn practical chemical and water management techniques. Detox is an alarming issue for global business which aims is to save environment from hazardous potential substances.  This world shall be perfect for future generations and make healthy environment. In this regard, it is required to eliminate 11 or 16 priority hazardous chemicals from waste water and sludge process” he added.

Mr. Sohal emphasizes, “So, this is the high time to take initiative against environmental pollution to save our world at greater means”.
