Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent: The people who are disabled, physically or mentally, are neglected to their families, societies or almost to everywhere and everybody they go and meet. But this very perspective needs to be changed. They can contribute their existing talent to our growth, they can be a part of us as a whole.

BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman said that people with disabilities are not disabled rather they are differently able and should be included in the mainstream economy by creating employment opportunities for them.

He made the remark while addressing a seminar organized at the sideline of a job fair for persons with disabilities at the Apparel Club in BGMEA Complex, Dhaka on 9 December.

Some 80 people with disabilities were recruited by different companies through the instant interview during the day-long job fair organized by Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN) in collaboration with Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) and Access Bangladesh Foundation with support from International Labour Organization (ILO).

Principle Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad was present as the chief guest at the seminar.

Acting Labour and Employment Secretary Afroza Khan, CEO of NDC Secretariat ABM Khorshed Alam, President of Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF) Kamran T Rahman, among others, were present at the seminar.
