618 Factories already been shut down and another 319 are in process to be shut – BGMEA President

Staff Correspondent : BGMEA president Mr. Siddiqur Rahman said, the RMG sector is passing very tough time for last 3 years while 618 factories has been shut down and another 318 is in process to shut down.

Mr. Siddiqur Rahman was talking with journalists in a press conference yesterday May 14 at BGMEA complex at Karwanbazar.

He added that Bangladesh RMG is struggling to sustain in this business due to several challenges like the energy supply is not smooth even after the order of the Prime minister we are not getting new gas connections or transfer the connection or increase the load. Moreover, the product price is going down and the the source tax also another burden for us. We are facing several international competition while the value of USD dropped.

Mr. BGMEA president requested to the concern authority to make duty free import of garments materials keeping all the challenges of this sector in mind.

He stated that we are failing to meet our desired growth in Garments export. We need support from the government. He has requested to reduce the corporate tax and the source tax should not be more than 3%.

BGMEA Vice President S M Mannan Kochi and Mohammad Nasir was present while Mr. President briefed to the journalists.
