Md. Ariful Islam, Staff Reporter: BGMEA and Asian University for Women are keen to work together to create more opportunity of higher education for women workers of garment industry in Bangladesh.
Mr. Kamal Ahmed, Founder of Asian University for Women, paid a courtesy call on BGMEA President Mr. Faruk Hasan at BGMEA PR Office, Gulshan on Tuesday (January 4). During the meeting, they expressed interest in deepening the collaboration between BGMEA and AUW to create the opportunity for higher education for more women garment workers.
In fact, already more than 100 women workers of garment industry are studying for free at the Asian University for Women with the help of their respective employers. During the study years, the concerned factory authorities have been paying regular monthly salaries to the workers studying in so that their families would not be affected.
Mr. Faruk Hasan confirmed that BGMEA would encourage member factories to send their talented and ambitious women workers to universities in order to help them fulfill their dreams.
He further said, “BGMEA would request the brand, development partners and other stakeholders to come forward and provide financial assistance for creating opportunity of higher education for the women garment workers in Bangladesh.”
Asian University for Women is an international university located in Bangladesh. Its current campus is located in the port city of Chattogram.
