Fibre2Fashion:
State-controlled China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has been contracted to set up the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in Anwara sub-district of Bangladesh’s Chattogram district. The place is 242 km southeast of capital Dhaka.
CRBC will also offer the relevant utility services along with developing the zone.

The economic zone aims at creating a conducive environment to attract Chinese investors, generating employment and ensuring sustainable economic development, according to Bangladesh media reports.

Bangladesh’s committee on economic affairs recently approved in principle a proposal by the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) to award the contract to CRBC through the direct procurement method.

The economic and industrial zone covering 778 acres is expected to generate 30,000 jobs, according to BEZA executive chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun. Chemical, automobile assembly, garments and pharmaceutical factories will be built there.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during her visit to China in June 2014, had made an offer to Chinese investors to set up an exclusive economic zone in her country.
