SA8000:2014 Introduction and Basic Auditor Training conducted in Dhaka

Ariful Islam, Staff Reporter: A 5-day long training course on “SA8000:2014 Introduction and Basic Auditor Training” was held at The Wisdom Campus, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The training was started on 11 January 2022 and ended with an online written examination on 15 January 2022.

The training was organized by USA based non-profit organization, the developer of SA8000 standard, Social Accountability International (SAI).

Mr. Abdul Alim, Lead Trainer and Bangladesh representative of SAI, facilitated the program in which 17 delegates participated from garment industry, audit and certification company.

One of the delegates Prosanta Kumar Gain expressed his feelings about this training. He said, “It was my desire to be a SA8000 qualifier to meet the present and upcoming compliance requirements. After waiting last 2.5 years to attend a physical session with Abdul Alim Sir, finally I have got the opportunity. I am spell bound to describe the session, in one word it was awesome and you will miss the talent of delivery if you miss this session. I am delighted to join this course accordingly.”

At the end of the 5-day long training course, the experienced social compliance practitioner and human rights activist, Mr. Abdul Alim talked to The RMG Times. He said, “Due to pandemic, it is the first face to face training program since November, 2019. We are very hopeful to arrange such training programs frequently from now if the situation is friendly. After a long break, it is a great pleasure to have the opportunity to deliver in front of such electric people.”

He added that Social Accountability International (SAI) is a non-profit organization working for ensuring the human rights at work. SA 8000 is the first auditable standard of the world established by the Social Accountability International (SAI).

He also mentioned that from 2003 SAI has been facilitating such Social Accountability Auditor Training courses which added a huge value to create local auditors instead the auditors used to come from abroad to conduct different Code of Conduct audits for the facilities. SAI charge the lowest fees for Bangladesh for This course comparing other countries to make it affordable for the potential delegates.

Another delegate Tanvir Ahmed thanked SAI and Mr. Alim for this initiative.

SA8000:2014 Introduction and Basic Auditor Training Course provides an overall introduction to social auditing, specifically auditing in accordance with the SA8000:2014 Standard. The five-day course is a requirement for all SA8000 Team Auditors and has been attended by thousands of professionals around the world.
