Staff Reporter: In any sector, workplace or business entities, workers are the root who uphold the end target of the organization. The readymade garment sector of Bangladesh employs more than 4 millions of workers. The rights of those vast numbers are being ensured as instructed by law and rules. But there are some RMG manufacturing companies who are providing better facilities to the workers, which are beyond law, to upgrade the life standard and wellbeing of them.
Sustainable Management System Bangladesh, a USA based Audit and Training proving company, in collaboration with The RMG Times, one of the most popular online RMG based news sources in Bangladesh, organized ‘SMS-RMG Times Workers Well-Being Award 2020’ for the 3rd consecutive time at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka on 13th March 2021 to recognize those RMG factories in a form of competition.
From over 100 applicant factories this year, a total of 17 factories have been selected by the Jury Board for this prestigious award. The winner factories are Alim Knit (BD) Ltd., Ananta Garments Ltd., Azmat Apparels Ltd., Comfit Composite Knit Ltd., Denim Expert Limited, Echotex Ltd., Envoy Textiles Limited, Fakir Apparels Ltd., Knit Plus Ltd., Modele De Capital Industries Limited, MAS Intimates Bangladesh (Pvt.) Ltd., Masco Group, MG Niche Stitch Limited, Renaissance Group, Snowtex Outerwear Ltd., Tosrifa Industries Ltd. and Yasin Knittinx Industries Limited.
Among the guest of Honors, Mr. Asif A. Chowdhury, Chairman- Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JBCCI) and Honorary Consul- Honorary Consulate of Chile in Bangladesh; Brig. General (Retd.) M Mofizur Rahman, Executive Chairman- Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA); Mr. Saiful Millat, Country Head- amfori; Mr. Mohiuddin Babar, CEO- Bizcare; Mr. Kanai Sarker, Group Director- Modele Group; Mr. Rasel Parves, Representative- USB Certification and Mr. Abdul Alim, CEO- Sustainable Management System Inc. & Editor of the RMG Times were present.
Speakers praised the initiative taken to recognize the good practices of the RMG factories to upgrade the life standard of the workers. The factories giving monetary benefits, providing lunch, transportation, fair price shop and so on to ensure well-being of the workers which are not legally mandated. This initiative will definitely uplift the positive aspects of the major remittance earning sector to the whole world.
The guest of Honors handed over this prestigious award to the winner factories at one point.
Along with this award ceremony, another art exhibition titled ‘Made in Bangladesh’ was also held at the same time. The objective of this exhibition was to depict the RMG employees’ lifestyle through an artistic point of view, through artwork. This is for the first time of its type in Bangladesh.
The photos exhibited are painted by two experienced freelance artists- Ms. Sumaia Jahan and Ms. Salmim Khan Koly.
Professor Mostafizul Haque, Chairman Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT), was present as the Chief Guest while Renowned Fine Artist Mr. Nasim Ahmed Nadvi and Mr. Dewan Mizan were also present as the special guest in the art exhibition.
A good number of audience attended this vast event.
